President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah says the modernisation of traditional institutions should not come at the expense of cultural values and traditions.

Namibian cultures should unite rather than divide the country.

That was the key message of the ||Kharas Governor Dawid Gertze, urging students of the University of Namibia Southern Campus during the official opening of their annual cultural festival in Keetmanshoop.

Young people who attended the Unam Cultural Festival at Rundu believe such events foster a connection to their roots, especially amongst diverse individuals. 

They also stressed the importance of learning about each other's cultures and traditions. 

The commemoration of National Heritage and Cultural Diversity Day was held at the Oshana Police Regional Headquarters, bringing together community leaders, traditional authorities, law-enforcement representatives and members of the public to reflect on the importance of preserving Namibia’s cultural heritage.

Ombu Cultural Village founder Vetumbuavi Mungunda says he is pleased with the growth and success of the living museum that continues to preserve and impart knowledge of OvaHerero traditions.

Mungunda expressed this at the 3rd edition of the heritage cultural festival held at Okakarara.

The University of Namibia (UNAM) celebrated Heritage Day to promote and strengthen cultural identity, traditions and diversity among the students. 

The event highlighted the significance of unity, respect, acknowledgement and appreciation of different cultures in Namibia. 

The Deputy Minister of Urban and Rural Development says over the past years, there has been a common agreement that young people do not value their cultures anymore, and it brings discomfort to know that they are slowly losing their identity.
