Motion to further review Marine Resources Amendment Act rejected

The Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Sylvia Makgone, explained why Swapo Party MPs objected to McHenry Venaani's Private Members Bill to amend the Marine Resources Amendment Act of 2000.

The bill sought to further amend the Act from giving sole discretionary powers to the Minister to allocate quotas to the National Fishing Corporation.

The proposed amendment divided the House, with PDM parliamentarians waving placards in the house in favour of the motion.

Golden Fin Fishing Masters Group drills boreholes

The Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Sylvia Makgone, commended Golden Fin Fishing Masters for using part of their allocated fishing quota to drill two boreholes and build water infrastructure for the community of !Gainachas in the ||Kharas Region.

As part of their social corporate responsibility programme, Golden Fin Fishing Masters Group drilled two boreholes and installed associated infrastructure at a cost of N$215,000 in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, Water, and Forestry.

Debmarine-Namdeb Foundation inaugurates seabird emergency response units at Lüderitz and Oranjemund

The Debmarine-Namdeb Foundation has inaugurated the seabird emergency response units at the southern towns of Luderitz and Oranjemund in the ||Kharas Region.   

The Debmarine-Namdeb Foundation in a statement says one of its environmental goals is to conserve seabirds on the Namibian coastline and in its marine economic zone. 

The Chairperson of the foundation Brent Eiseb confidently said that the country is now prepared to handle any emergency where seabirds are affected in case of oil spills in the oceans.
