Lusaka City Council approve renaming two roads after Namibian leaders

All 38 councillors of Lusaka City Council in Zambia have unanimously voted in favour of gazetting two roads and renaming them after Namibian Presidents.

Lusaka City Council Public Relations Manager Chola Mwamba told nbc News correspondent Wamundila Chilinda that this marks the conclusion of the legal process for naming the two roads.

The two roads are among the key avenues exiting Lusaka City for southern-bound traffic.

They also connect to two other districts, namely Chilanga and Kafue.

Founding President hails President Geingob's leadership

Founding President Sam Nujoma has hailed President Hage Geingob's leadership in prioritising the implementation of targeted policy programmes to enhance service delivery.

These efforts, Nujoma says, contribute to economic recovery and engender inclusive growth through the Harambee Prosperity Plan.

NUST Interim Council appointed

The Minister of Higher Education, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Itah Kandjii-Murangi, has inaugurated the interim council members of the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST).

The term of the previous council members ended last month.


The interim council consists of eight members, chaired by Dr. Leake Hangala and deputised by Nora Ndopu.

Others are Dr. Uazuva Kaumbi, Emilia Nghikembua, Sam Nujoma, Dr. Stanley Shanapinda, Dr. Detlof Oertzen, Rachel Kalipi, Kadiva Hamutumwa, Dr. Alfred van Kent, and Flora Gaes.

Namibians celebrate Founding President Nujoma's 94th birthday

Some authors say having a baby boy means you have a best friend for life. When he is small, he will be delighted to tell you all the things happening in his life, and when he grows up, he will lend you a shoulder to lean on.

Sam Nujoma has not only been a shoulder to cry on for his parents but for all those with whom he has come into contact throughout his lifetime.

It is this life that Namibians celebrated today as Nujoma turned 94 in his home village of Etunda.

President Geingob wishes Founding President Nujoma a happy 94th birthday

Founding President Sam Nujoma is celebrating his 94th birthday today.

President Hage Geingob is among the first citizens to send well wishes to Nujoma, saying the nation celebrates the valiant son, whose bravery was unwavering in the pursuit of the Namibian revolution.

Nujoma was born on 12 May 1929, at Etunda Village in the Omusati Region.

Dr. Geingob, in a statement, said Founding President Nujoma played a towering role in uniting Namibians in their march for a stable and prosperous country.

Namibian Police request the public to help identifying a female body

The Namibian Police are asking the public for help in identifying a female body stored in the Windhoek Police Mortuary or to contact them if they are aware of a missing person in their area.

According to the Head of NamPol's Public Relations Division, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, an unknown female was bumped by a car nearly two months ago on Sam Nujoma Drive near Otjomuise.

The unidentified woman is estimated to be between 17 and 25 years old.

Deputy Commissioner Shikwambi says no positive identification has been done to date.

President Geingob joins group of permanent members on SWAPO Central Committee

President Hage Geingob and seven other Swapo Party heavyweights now join the list of permanent members on the Central Committee, including former presidents Sam Nujoma and Hifikepunye Pohamba.

The Swapo Party made the appointment following Sunday's deliberations during the elective congress.

Other permanent members are Nangolo Mbumba, Calle Schlettwein, Asser Kapere, Dr Albert Kawana and Jerry Ekandjo.

Party's veterans Charles Namoloh, Nahas Angula, Helmut Angula, and Doreen Sioka are now also permanent members.
