Two families at Kahoro Village fight for piece of land

Two families at Kahoro Village in Kavango West are at loggerheads over the ownership of a piece of land on the banks of the Kavango River.

This happened after one family allegedly sold the 10-hectare piece of land to a couple who wanted to construct a lodge there.

Three men from the Nambase family are out on N$1,000 bail each after they were arrested for removing fencing poles from the property in question.

Frans Nambase says the land belongs to him and is not for sale, warning those claiming it to stay away.

Twelve-year-old girl killed by crocodile in Kavango River

A 12-year-old girl was attacked and killed by a crocodile in the Kavango River.

Acting Kavango East Regional Police Commander Commissioner Aino Nambahu says the little girl went to fetch water with others at the river.

The deceased was identified as Eleotheria Mashe Ngoma, a resident of Shikoro Village in the Ndiyona Constituency.
 
He says the body was retrieved from the crocodile, by a brave resident who was close to the scene.

Public should be cautious near the Kavango river this festive season-Police

The police in the Kavango East Region is urging the public to be cautious when visiting the Kavango River for recreational activities during the festive season.

The Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Bonifatius Kanyetu, says cases of crocodile and hippo attacks might increase as more people return to their villages for holidays.

Deputy Commissioner Kanyetu's caution comes after a 16-year-old boy said to be an Angolan national escaped a hippo attack on the river at Mbambi village.
