WFP supports small scale farmers in Zambezi

The World Food Programme (WFP), in collaboration with the Namibian Agronomic Board, recently handed over essential farming equipment to two small-scale farmers in the Zambezi Region. This initiative aims to support and enhance agricultural productivity in the area.

One of the farmers, Regina Mayumbelo, received equipment valued at N$250,000, which included fencing material, a shade net with irrigation, seeds, and continued technical support.

The second farmer, Vincent Siliye, whose equipment included solar panels, was funded at N$350,000.

Agronomic Board strategy to empower farmers

The Namibia Agronomic Board aims to capacitate local farmers to increase their yields and realise Namibia's food self-sufficiency. 

The Board is responsible for promoting the agronomic industry and facilitating the production, processing, storage, and marketing of controlled agricultural products in the country.

Its CEO, Dr. Fidelis Mwazi, sheds some light on this.

NAB & NCRST sign a new agreement

The Namibia Agronomic Board and National Commission on Research, Science and Technology have signed a new agreement to facilitate agricultural research, innovation, value-addition and tests of crops that emanate from Genetically Modified Organisms.

The NAB will also draft regulations on the exportation, and importation of local production to scruitinise the safety of such products in and beyond Namibia.
