New curriculum's implementation a challenge - NANSO

Breadcrumb

The Namibia National Students Organisation, NANSO, says there is a misconception about the new education curriculum, such as that it is not well crafted to respond to the needs of learners and the country at large.

The student body says the curriculum is well crafted, adding that implementation appears to be a challenge.

NANSO spokesperson Dorthea Nangolo says that on paper, the curriculum speaks to the country's aspirations for academic excellence.

Effective execution of the plan, though, remains a matter of concern, she says.

The Deputy Executive Director of the Ministry of Education, Arts, and Culture says the education system is in crisis.

Edda Bohn attributes the current state of affairs in education, including the poor performance of learners in the new curriculum, to the economic recession experienced prior to 2016.

Bohn says that the funding availed by the central government to effectively implement the new curriculum has not been sufficient.
