The Minister of International Relations and Cooperation has called on Namibia to take advantage of the Joint Commission of Cooperation (JCC) with Venezuela.

The JCC will focus on areas such as mining, housing and urban development, agriculture and food security, education, the arts and culture, gender equality, and trade.

Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah specifically pointed out that Namibia gives great focus to agriculture and food security.

She complimented Venezuela on its capacity to cater for over 80% of the food needs of its 30 million residents despite economic sanctions.

Nandi-Ndaitwah noted that the agriculture sector in Namibia is currently on the mend following severe drought and climate impacts.

She added that Namibia is committed to improving its agriculture sector and is positive this can be done through cooperation.

She also pointed out that Namibia will also look at areas of petroleum and will also engage with Venezuela on their Great Housing Mission in order to strengthen the financing allocations and implementations for housing and urban development.

Venezuela, on the other hand, will look to learn from Namibia in the area of diamond mining.

The minister said this at the closing ceremony of the Inaugural Session Namibia-Venezuela Joint Commission of Cooperation in Windhoek.
