A 34-year-old man, Erick Mutanale appeared in the Katima Mulilo Magistrate's Court on charges of murder and defeating the course of justice.

According to the charge sheet, Mutanale allegedly tied the deceased with a wire, dragged him about 30 meters away from his house and buried him in a shallow grave.

After his rights to legal representation were explained, Mutanela, opted to apply for legal Aid to obtain a government-funded lawyer.

State Prosecutor, Cedrick Mundia objected to the granting of bail to the accused citing the seriousness of the charges he is facing, and that it would not be in the interest of the public.

He was, however, advised to file a formal application if he wants to be granted bail.

His case was postponed to 29 May this year pending further investigations and the outcome of the accused's Legal Aid application.

The deceased's body was exhumed by the police on Thursday 2 March after members of the public tipped them off.

The body of the deceased has not yet been identified.
