The supplementary registration of voters for the Keetmanshoop Rural Constituency by-election kicked off this morning.

ECN's Regional Constituency Supervisor at Keetmanshoop, Rosaline Keramen, says all logistics are in place for the supplementary registration.

The by-election became necessary following the expulsion of former Landless People's Movement (LPM) regional councilor, Gerrit Witbooi.

Speaking to nbc News, Keramen says that all teams have been dispatched to registration points in the constituency.

"This registration is only for the residents of Keetmanshoop Rural; they must stay within Keetmanshoop Rural, Kronlein, Aruab, Koes, and surrounding farms; it is for the applicants who turned 18, people who moved from one constituency to another, people whose cards got lost, and people who want to change their address; it is not for Keetmanshoop Urban, because there is a confusion: Keetmanshoop is two constituencies, Keetmanshoop Rural, and Keetmanshoop Urban."

Dora Tsamare, who was among the first voters to register, called on young people to turn out in their numbers and register during the supplementary registration to enable them to vote in the upcoming by-election.

"I came here early in the morning as you all know Keetmanshoop can get very hot. I want to urge all people, especially the young, to come and register. This is your right, so come and make use of this opportunity."

The by-election for the Keetmanshoop Rural Constituency councilor will take place early next month.
