Namibia's Ohangwena Region and the Tanga Region in Tanzania are expected to sign a cooperation agreement in various areas.
The political leadership and several business representatives from Ohangwena attended an engagement as part of the Namibia-Tanzania Joint Commission on Cooperation.
The engagement was facilitated by Namibia's Ambassador to Tanzania, Lebbius Tobias, who said the partnership aims to strengthen the trade links and expand economic cooperation between the two regions.
"What we want to do as a representative of my country is to make sure that I link up between Namibia and Tanzania. I have done that because I want it to be very easy if you have your own link with a certain region and you come up with an MoU and an area of cooperation that the Ohangwena region wants to cooperate in A, B, and C. There are very important areas that you can identify, but I always say that whenever we do that, we look at the important factors that can really benefit our people."
Tobias further urged the regional leadership to embrace the partnership and make it effective, saying Tanzania is well-advanced and is doing extremely well in the agriculture sector and flourishing businesses where Namibia can explore opportunities and form joint ventures.
"I propose this partnership, and I humble myself by asking that this should be really effective and it should really work, because we generally just put partnership and we fold our hands and only sign memoranda of understanding and we are quiet, it's always best that we learn from other countries where people are doing real things and we get a good example from them and start doing something."
The Lebbius family also donated a wheelchair to a seven-year-old boy from Oshimbumba Primary School.
