The Minister Information and Communication Technology (MICT), Dr. Peya Mushelenga, has tabled an amount of more than N$650 million for consideration in the National Assembly on Tuesday.

In his motivation, Dr. Mushelenga emphasized the need to coordinate and formulate strategies that will propel Namibians into an informed society.

The largest share of this allocation of more than N$484 million will go to the audiovisual media and regional offices.

This is to, among others, promote Namibia as a preferred destination for tourists and visitors alike, which ultimately creates employment for the youth, Dr. Mushelenga explained.

An amount of more than N$310 million will go towards the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation's operational budget, while N$82 million will go to its development budget.

New Era newspaper got N$27 million, and N$77 million goes for the ministry's coordination and support while N$19 million is earmarked for the ICT promotion program.

The print media is allocated an amount of N$67 million, and Dr. Mushelenga says it will promote the national concepts of Nationhood and National Pride as well as N$20 million for the Information Commissioners.

He stressed that these are aimed at ensuring accurate and timely information for the nation.
