President Geingob says efforts to increase COVID-19 vaccine uptake are ongoing. This is in light of the vaccination rate, which still remains low.
Dr. Geingob says so far, more than 980,000 doses have been administered in all 14 regions since the COVID-19 vaccination campaign was launched in 2021.
He says although the vaccination rate remains low, Namibia has sustained a low positivity rate in the past year compared to an average of 31.1% during the Delta wave.
This, he says, was achieved through concerted efforts and support from the United Nations, especially WHO, development partners, the private sector, civil society organizations, the media, and communities.
Meanwhile, the President also commended the WHO and partners for supporting the government's efforts related to case management, surveillance, laboratory services, infection prevention and control, risk communication, community engagement, water, sanitation, and hygiene during the Hepatitis E virus outbreak.
Since March 2022, Namibia has declared the end of the Hepatitis E virus outbreak, which affected 13 of the 14 political regions, mainly in informal settlements and areas with poor hygiene and sanitation.
As the world commemorates World Health Day, President Geingob says Namibia remains committed to ensuring health for all in line with goal 4 of the Harambee Prosperity Plan, which ensures access to health care for all.
