The Informal Settlement Upgrading Affordable Housing Pilot Project is about to reduce the housing backlog by 113 houses as construction begins.

The houses will be constructed in Windhoek's Greenwell Matongo Extension 4.

The late President Hage Geingob once said that the living conditions in the informal settlements should be declared a national humanitarian crisis. 

The Deputy Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Evelyn !Nawases-Taeyele, reminded those in attendance of his words. 

The remembrance and celebration of the legacy of late President Hage Geingob continue,  with the latest one being Namibia's diplomatic mission to Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg, known as the Benelux countries.

The late President Geingob personified Namibia's relationship with European countries and ensured that this was anchored on the concept of mutual benefits.

Nostalgia over his deeds still lingers around a month after his burial, and the Namibian Embassy to the Benelux countries fondly recalled the impact of the late leader.

President Nangolo Mbumba, accompanied by First Lady Sustjie Mbumba, arrived in Botswana to attend the memorial of the late President Dr. Hage Geingob, scheduled to take place tomorrow in Gaborone. 

Before the memorial, President Mbumba paid a courtesy visit to Botswana's President, Mokgweetsi Masisi.

The Minister in the Presidency, Christine ||Hoebes, says the trip of the President is also part of the familiarisation visits by the President to SADC countries since he took office. 

President Nangolo Mbumba says the decision by Botswana's government to hold a memorial service for the late President Hage Geingob is a demonstration of historical ties between the two countries.

President Mbumba is leading the Namibian delegation, comprising a number of government officials, to the memorial service to be held in Botswana's capital, Gaborone, on Wednesday.

The Head of State will also pay a courtesy call on President Mokgweetsi Masisi after the memorial service.

He was known as the most notorious gang leader, and he was feared by many.

But now. Paulus Shimweefeleni, well known as "Ninja," says he is a changed man as he takes the walk of freedom from the Windhoek Correctional Facility tomorrow, where he had been a resident for 25 years, sentenced for murder.

The Namibian nation bid farewell to its leader, Dr. Hage Geingob, with a state funeral that was attended by dignitaries from around the world. 

The eldest children of the late President, Mangaliso Fernandez Geingob and Nangula Geingos, expressed their gratitude for the support and love shown during the mourning period.

The siblings expressed their sincere gratitude to the Presidency and all other entities that coordinated the dignified funeral of their father.

United Nations agencies gathered to engage in dialogue and reflect on the late President Hage Geingob's internationalist outlook. 

Representatives of the agencies paid tribute to the late Namibian president, recalling how President Geingob often emphasised the importance of international solidarity and referred to Namibia as a product of this solidarity.

The leaders and residents of the Otjinene constituency joined the rest of the country in remembrance of the late President Hage Geingob, whom they describe as a leader of note, a people's president, and someone who always stood by his word.

The Chairperson of the Otjinene Village Council, Lesley Kauandara, emphasised that the late President Hage Geingob served his country with dedication and had shown political maturity by singling out the appointment of opposition figures into the country's administration. 

The people of the Kunene region gathered in solemn remembrance as they paid befitting tributes to the late President Hage Geingob during their regional memorial service held in Opuwo.

The atmosphere was filled with soothing hymns, poetry, and traditional mourning practices.

The Ombimbi cultural group led the procession in Dr. Geingob's honour.

Emotional scenes played out at Opuwo, as replications of cultural rituals of mourning practices by the Ovahimba and Ovaherero communities came to the fore in paying tribute to Dr. Geingob.

As the world continues to reflect on the life and impact of the late President Hage Geingob, some in civil society and the local media credit him with positioning Namibia as a respected voice on the international stage.

A charismatic man who expertly understood geopolitics and international relations, Geingob has been credited with thrusting Namibia onto the global stage, using international platforms to expound Namibia's position on global conflicts.
