The Ondonga Traditional Authority will provide land to the youth of the Oshikoto Region.

The decision was announced by the leader of the Ondonga Traditional Authority, Omukwaniilwa Fillemon Shuumbwa Nangolo, during a courtesy visit by the Oshikoto governor to Onambango village today.

The visit by Governor Sacky Kathindi and his delegation aimed to strengthen relationships between stakeholders to ensure service delivery and to highlight some challenges facing the region.

“This delegation here shows commitment to teamwork. We can only serve the nation if we put ideas together,” said Kathindi.

Raising concerns about the region, Kathindi informed the Omukwaniilwa that he is not new to the region and is aware of its needs.

He further said his office will not be able to carry out its mandate if it does not include the traditional authority in its planning.

“Challenges such as roads, water, land, and mobile networks will only be resolved if we work hand in hand with the traditional authorities,” emphasised Kathindi, adding, “I did not come with new ideas, but I am here with the existing concerns and visions of the region; we are only going to continue where my predecessor, Ya Ndakolo, left off.”

Kathindi highlighted to Omukwaniilwa Nangolo the need for a magistrate's office in Omuthiya, noting that offenders currently travel long distances for court hearings.

Kathindi reiterated the President’s call to construct sports facilities in all regional constituencies. He added that all constituencies have already received a request to identify suitable venues for these facilities.

Moreover, to address the issue of network connectivity in the region, Kathindi stated that the ICT minister has assured the region that five network towers will be constructed to improve connectivity.

He also raised a concern from the youth regarding agriculture, noting that young people from the northern regions are trained in the Erongo Region on mushroom cultivation, but after training, they return to their comfort zones without implementing their knowledge and skills. Hence, there is a need to provide land for the youth to be productive and to showcase their skills in agriculture.

Omukwaniilwa Nangolo was presented with a presidential portrait of Dr. Nandi-Ndaitwah and gardening materials.
