The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform, Inge Zaamwani, has officially handed over the Oshana Integrated Regional Land Use Plan to the regional council, marking a significant step towards coordinated and sustainable land use in the region.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Zaamwani noted that the plan was developed through a bottom-up and participatory approach to ensure that all stakeholders contribute to its development.

Zamwaani said the plan serves as a key reference for the development of projects, land-use decisions, infrastructure planning and compliance for the region.

She called on the Office of the Regional Governor, the Oshana Regional Council and all relevant institutions to take ownership of the plan and ensure its effective implementation.

"Sectoral projects must be guided by the approved land-use zones, and all development activities must be consistent with the plan. The IRLUP must guide decision-making, support sustainable regional planning and direct land uses towards the most suitable areas. It should also improve the coordination and implementation of development initiatives and promote orderly infrastructure development."

Oshana Governor Hofni Iipinge said stakeholders involved in land allocation will be sensitised on the importance and application of the plan, while responsible units will be periodically monitored for compliance.

"We accept the Integrated Regional Land Use Plan (IRLUP), and we shall stand together in utilising the outlined land use zones for the development of our Region Oshana."

The plan was developed at a cost of over N$4 million.
