The police in the Omaheke Region have tightened their operations over the Easter long weekend, with an intensified police presence in and around Gobabis.

The aim is to ensure that the long weekend is an accident- and crime-free.

This was revealed by Police Inspector Fina Sakajengenga, Unit Commander of Community Affairs when he visited the Omitara/Windhoek roadblock.

Inspector Sakajengenga says roads are busy and the police will count on citizens' usual cooperation to avoid any unnecessarily serious incidents.

In addition, Sakajengenga says a team of crime prevention officers is deployed in the town to ensure that no illegal activity happens.

"We are having a campaign operation called Amazing March that is currently running where we are ensuring that all the public members are safe and ensuring that crime is prevented. As you can see, there's a roadblock that is mounted to ensure that all drivers adhere to the road regulations, and there's also a team of crime prevention members that are deployed in towns to ensure that crime is prevented or to act on any suspicious crimes committed in the Omaheke Region."

The Police Inspector says that the force will work hard to ensure all alcohol outlets operate within the provisions of their license.
