A 38-year-old woman is in critical condition at a Windhoek hospital after she allegedly shot herself in the head with a pistol this afternoon.

The police say the incident happened at an Engen Service Station in Pionierspark.

CCTV footage at the service station, the police say, showed the woman running behind the service station with the pistol in her hand, whereafter she sat on the floor at the car wash next to the service station and shot herself.

The husband, according to the police, took his wife home and then to the hospital.

She is reportedly in critical condition.
