Erongo Red and MTC have signed an agreement to boost digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and innovation.
At the signing ceremony in Walvis Bay, Erongo Red's Chief Executive Officer described MTC as a digital enabler for the public sector.
Tino !Hanabeb believes MTC will be able to support electrification and mitigate Erongo Red's challenges, which include access to electricity, theft, and revenue collection.
"We are vending through a South African service provider, right? Whether it is the City of Windhoek or ourselves and all the REDs, we are vending through South African providers, and it pains me that indeed we must pay somebody sitting outside whilst we are also equally looking for creating job opportunities within the country. And I trust that, through this partnership, we will be able to deliver that. Currently, we are collecting 91% of our revenue electronically. That's really a massive number, but we want to move from 91% within the next two to three years to 100% through electronic platforms, so we are looking at digital transformation, smart grid, and developing and promoting pre-paid metering and vending solutions using MTC payment gateway."
Speaking on behalf of MTC was the Acting MD, Patience Kanalelo who said that "We are keenly looking forward to providing an array of solutions to Erongo Red in the areas of payment and pre-payment methods through multiple methods for vending water or electricity via MTC's digital channels. This cooperation should give flexibility to both our customers with more convenient access to electricity, and it will help Erongo Red accelerate electricity usage or fee collection through a nationalized vending solution on the MTC network and digital platforms."
Erongo Red intends to develop a mobile application to add value to its services.
