The says that the Rent Control Bill is currently undergoing drafting by an assigned team of experts.

 

The ministry's public relations department says the final draft is expected to be done before the end of the 2023–2024 financial year.

 

The ministry says it is subject to stakeholders' consultations and refinements.

 

The Rent Control Board of Namibia was set up in 2018 by the former Minister of Industrialization, Trade, and SME Development, Tjekero Tweya.

 

The announcement of the appointments to the Board came after the Affirmative Repositioning (AR) movement dragged the minister to court for failure to implement the regulation of Rent Ordinance 13 of 1977, as amended.

 

Pillar three under the Harambee Prosperity Plan, which deals with social progression, stipulates that the Rent Control Bill is to be promulgated by the end of 2021.

 

But since the announcement of the Board towards the end of 2018, the body has been inactive and has been moved from the Trade and Industrialization Ministry to the Urban and Rural Development Ministry.
