The Erongo Governor Neville Andre has urged Namibians to be financially educated to avoid falling prey to scammers.

Andre said this during the launch of the first-of-its-kind campaign by the Namibian Deposit Guarantee Authority at Swakopmund.

Andre says during the COVID-19 pandemic, criminals adapted their methods to exploit victims' fears over the coronavirus and are now finding new avenues of attack in the high cost of living crisis.

He says most of those falling prey to scams are those who are financially desperate, adding financial literacy is needed in communities to increase awareness.

Namibia Deposit Guarantee Authority's Head, Florette Nakusera urged Namibians to put their trust in commercial banks.

NDGA's Manager of Operations, Petrus Shifotoka, says the institution is leading in the whole of the SADC region and fostering the financial system of Namibia.

The campaign by the Namibian Deposit Guarantee Authority was held at Swakopmund, Walvis Bay and Henties Bay over a three-day period.
