The government allocates billions of dollars every year towards monthly allowances for old-age pensions, people living with disabilities, and other social safety nets.
Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila reflected on the government's social investments during a belated independence celebration at Mbambi village in the Mukwe Constituency.
Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila stated that the allocations have benefited about one million Namibians and the aim is to reduce poverty in Namibia.
"As part of efforts to reduce poverty, our government adopted a welfare program that entails grants to orphans and vulnerable children, elderly, persons with disabilities, support to the marginalized communities and those members of our communities who are affected by the natural emergency, currently, approximately one million Namibians benefits annually from expenditures of about N$7 billion on social safety nets."
The Premier added that the government has prioritized the fight against crime, including gender-based violence, child abuse, and the elimination of gender inequality.
"As we celebrate 33 years of peace freedom and independence, let us recommit ourselves to the realization of the ideals of independence unity solidarity freedom and justice for all this is the best way to honor those who sacrificed for our independence."
Also speaking at the occasion was the Councilor of Mukwe Constituency Damian Maghambayi.
"I will not dwell much on developmental issues that have been implemented in this Constituency, but for some of you who can see, you can see the effort by the government to ensure that services are provided that is why you can hear me sound and clear because of the services government has provided and some of you who can touch you ca. Also touch the service that government has provided."
