Senior Citizens of the Moses ||Garoeb Constituency in Katutura were treated to a day filled with appreciation and pampering.

It was a hive of activity at the Max Mutongolume Community Hall in Havana as the elderly witnessed a tree-planting demonstration.

The event, made possible by the Omkhai Namibia Trust was all about appreciating the elderly in the community.

After the horticulture lesson, the elderly moved into the hall where they were presented with a winter blanket, a pair of warm socks and a hot water bottle.

But the day was far from over. The senior citizens were also treated to a warm nutritious meal as they mingled amongst one another.

After the elders had enough time to digest and relax, it was time for the final show of humility.

The pensioners were told to sit back, and unwind, and were spoiled with a therapeutic foot-washing ceremony.

Founder of the Omkhai Namibia Trust, Saima Shaanika says the Trust works to uplift marginalized groups of people while also assisting the needy and neglected.

She says the drive was, therefore, necessitated by the current cold weather conditions.

"Some people don't have that blanket and it's cold so we decided that we're giving you a warm blanket, some socks and a hot water bottle."

Omkhai Namibia Trust approached the Constituency Councillor's Office which then assisted in identifying the beneficiaries.

The Moses ||Garoeb Constituency Councillor, Stefanus Ndengu said this is one of the biggest constituencies in Windhoek with high unemployment and vulnerable individuals.

"It's, therefore, important to us to receive assistance from Namibian people. We really appreciate any kind of help and we are looking forward to receiving other donations from any other people."

In a speech read on her behalf, the Governor of the Kharas Region, Laura McLeod-Katjirua said senior citizens are the foundation of a country's heritage, history, tradition culture and custom.

After an activity-filled day, this is what some of the elders had to say about the event.

"We were in need of all the items we received today. I am convinced that there are other senior citizens who also need those gifts but they just couldn't make it today," said Doreen Vries a resident of the constituency.

Moses ||Garoeb Constituency resident Immanuel Shixungileni said he was appreciative of the donation because a lot of elders are currently experiencing tough times at home.
