The Swapo party Regional Coordinator for the Kavango East Region, Ottilie Shinduvi, says the party has not made a definitive stance on same-sex marriage.

Shinduvi made these remarks during the SWAPO Party Woman Council's annual activity plan cluster workshop held in Rundu.

She emphasized that the government has not permitted same-sex marriages to take place.

Shinduvi pointed out that misinformation on social media has led to misunderstandings among the public.

She acknowledged that the party is aware of the concerns and challenges faced by individuals seeking recognition of same-sex marriages.

"I hear the nation complaining, crying about homosexual that the government of Namibia has allowed. It's not true, members let us be vigilant, I think the media must start reporting accurately because this issue of homosexual is the media that is miss leading the nation, the pronunciation was different and your Swapo leadership is busy silencing all these things."

Shinduvi mentioned that the Swapo Central Committee has yet to convene and discuss the matter thoroughly.

"The central committee is going to be called very soon, you know in our party that the central committee of Swapo is the highest decision-making body. Soon we are going to seat and the party will pronounce itself and the government of Swapo. The Swapo leading government will also pronounce, there is nothing homosexual here in Namibia we don't believe in it and it will not happen."

Therefore, she urged women not to express their opinions on the issue until the central committee has officially addressed it.

However, Olavi Mpande, the Headman of Ndama, who attended the workshop, expressed his belief that same-sex marriages should not be allowed in Namibia due to cultural and traditional values.
