Deputy Prime Minister, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has emphasised the need for Erongo regional leadership to step up their efforts in promoting private sector involvement in regional initiatives aimed at strengthening industrialization and driving economic development.

Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah was speaking at the roundtable discussion on youth unemployment in Swakopmund.

Erongo holds significant importance as it serves as the primary hub for Namibia's fishing industry.

Additionally, it is home to the country's uranium belt, making it one of the largest producers of uranium globally.

One notable feature of the region is Namibia's first desalination plant, which plays a crucial role in ensuring water supply security.

There are also opportunities for investors to invest in additional desalination plants, further enhancing the country's water resources.

Tourism is a thriving sector in the region, with Swakopmund attracting a considerable number of tourists.

However, despite these positive aspects, the region faces the critical challenge of unemployment.

Many Namibians are migrating from rural to urban areas in search of better prospects, but finding employment remains elusive.

In light of this situation, Nandi-Ndaitwah has emphasised the importance of the private sector's involvement in addressing the country's high rates of youth unemployment and unemployment among the unskilled workforce.

She underlined that the government alone cannot tackle this issue and stressed the need for the private sector to take a leading role in generating employment opportunities.

The Deputy Premier further emphasised that the private sector needs to serve as a driving force in efforts to reduce unemployment.
