Swakopmund-based West Side High School is marred by allegations of fraud and theft.

A female teacher is currently out on bail of N$20,000, and an additional two arrests are expected to be executed this week by the Namibian Police.

A criminal case of theft has been opened against a Grade 11 teacher at the school after she allegedly embezzled about N$30,000, which was meant for the learners' Matric jackets.

West Side High teacher Priscilla Fischer stands accused of collecting payment via her personal account, asking learners to pay N$850 that was initially meant for school jackets, but learners never received the jackets. School management, including the board, only found out about the incident after an outcry from parents.

After a board resolution, the school management was directed to register a criminal matter against Fischer and to also report the matter to the Ministry of Education head office; however, no action has been taken against Fischer by her appointing authority.

The teacher was since found guilty at the Swakopmund Magistrate's Court and is expected to be sentenced on Thursday.

Two more arrests are expected to be executed this week as more teachers face charges of theft after an unknown amount allegedly raised at the school's Valentine's event got stolen after an alleged burglary.

The school recently made headlines after a fight broke out between Grade 8 and Grade 9 learners at the school, prompting police intervention.

Approached for comment, school principal Vanessa Rheeder refused to comment and directed nbc News to the regional education directorate and the Namibian police.
