A traditional healer suspected of murder was denied bail at the Rundu Magistrate's Court on Friday.

This decision comes in light of the deaths of two women at Kandjara Village, located in the Ndiyona Constituency of Kavango East.

The deceased women had sought treatment from the traditional healer, Andrew Haushiku Mberema, prior to their untimely demise.

45-year-old Mberema initially fled the village but later surrendered himself to the police in Ndiyona on Wednesday.

According to allegations, four women sought the assistance of Mberema to rid themselves of bad luck.

The healer provided them with a concoction designed to induce vomiting.

Tragically, two of the victims, Josephine Namutenya Shiremo (27) and Shikonga Linyando (30), died shortly after consuming the herbal mixture, while the other two are currently receiving treatment at Nyangana Roman Catholic Hospital.

The deaths occurred at the Kandjara Clinic.

Deputy Commissioner Bonifasius Kanyetu, NamPol's Kavango East regional crime investigation coordinator, confirmed that the remaining traditional medicine was confiscated as evidence.

Due to the gravity of the matter, the suspect was denied bail, and the case has been postponed to August 25.
