Kunene Governor Marius Sheya says the region's abundant natural resources are currently underutilised.

Speaking during a high-level meeting with the German delegation and local businesspeople in Outjo, Sheya emphasised that Kunene is open to investors across various sectors.

The focus of the networking meeting with a delegation from Germany, headed by the State Minister of Economic Affairs, Labour, and Transport of the Free State of Saxony, was on seeking investment opportunities in Kunene, particularly in the energy and mining sectors. Kunene Governor Marius Sheya emphasised that the region's coastal line is currently underutilised.

"We have a coastline for almost a stretch of 500 kilometres that is underutilised, so it is an advantage to us because we can develop and put something on the coastline." 

Khorixas Constituency Sebastian !Gobs has applauded this kind of networking, indicating that the outcomes will be beneficial to the region and the Khorixas too.

"Having also these investors that have visited us within the region and also going to have discussions at a later stage with the commerce chamber of commerce from Southern Africa, one is very confident that, if not more, maybe one or two mines can come to our region and especially within Khorixas constituency because we've got deposits of rare earth, copper, tin, and you can name it. So we are hopeful; we are hopeful that whenever we get those negotiations, at the end of the day something will come out of those negotiations, from those talks."

"For a town like Kamanjab village council, to attract investors, what we have for the investors is land, we have reserved 500 hectares of land for any investment opportunity. We have learned from the German delegation that they are ready for investment in tourism, mining, and agriculture, and those are the three most important aspects with which Kamanjab will engage the German delegation," said Kamanjab Village Council CEO Bianca Nguaiko.
