The Landless People's Movement (LPM) youth are demanding the removal of the Minister of Sport, Youth, and National Services, Agnes Tjongarero, claiming she has failed to address youth unemployment.

They say young people's biggest battle is against unemployment, with many graduates still sitting at home.

LPM youth placed the Namibian youth's predicament squarely on the shoulders of the Minister.

"Young people in this country are not taken seriously. The high unemployment rate they tell us is 46%, but believe me, it is more than that. In every 10 young people, 8 are unemployed, but we are told to wait for the future to be ours, but we, as the LPM youth, are not going to say the future is ours, but we say the future is now, and the future should be now, so it should be our call."

In response, Tjongarero said: "The question about me being removed is the prerogative of the president, so I will not dwell on that; I will dwell on youth development. Our mandate is youth empowerment and sports development, so we will only talk about the youth. The ministry has several programmes for the youth, by which we mean youth empowerment programmes, which include social empowerment programmes, basic skill upgrades, entrepreneurship, and basic development for out-of-school youth. Please note that we do not deal with university students."
