Namibia Assumes Chairmanship of MOU in Sport with Botswana

Namibia has officially taken over the rotating chairmanship of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in sport with Botswana for the next two years.

The handover ceremony took place in Gaborone, Botswana earlier this week, marking the beginning of Namibia's leadership in this cooperative agreement.

The MOU, signed in 2021, serves as a collaboration framework between the national sport commissions of Namibia and Botswana, focusing on sport development.

NYS recruits urged to embrace training

The Minister of Sport, Youth, and National Service, Agnes Tjongarero, has urged the new recruits of the National Youth Service at Henties Bay to embrace the training and gain skills to become self-dependent and thus contribute to the socio-economic development of the country.

More than 5,500 applications were received for this year's intake from all 121 constituencies.

This is the first time that the NYS Henties Bay Centre is open for activities since its closure in 2017, when the National Service Training moved to Rietfontein.

LPM demands removal of Sport Minister

They say young people's biggest battle is against unemployment, with many graduates still sitting at home.

The Minister of Sports, Youth, and National Service, Agnes Tjongarero, has encouraged young people to aspire towards entrepreneurship as a solution to addressing the high rate of youth unemployment.

Spearheaded by the Begin To Imagine (BTI) youth group, the Expo is the first to be hosted by Bethanie Village.

Tjongarero made the call during the opening of the Expo at Bethanie Village in ||Kharas Region, where she pledged N$20 000 towards the hosting of the Expo.

Namibia has terminated the shared BONA2027 bid with Botswana

Namibia has terminated the shared BONA2027 bid with Botswana. 

In a letter addressed to her counterpart from Botswana, Tumiso Rakgare, the Minister of Sport, Youth and National Service, Agnes Tjongarero, informed him that Namibia is unable to fulfill its obligations in terms of the MoU between the two governments. 

The letter states that with the looming drought in Namibia, government was forced to reprioritise its resources and will not be able to honour the N$4.8 billion required to upgrade facilities.

FNB Sponsors NFA Women's Super League with N$2.5M

The long wait for the return of women's football appears to be over after banking giants FNB pumped a staggering 2.5 million Namibia dollars into the NFA Women's Super League.

The NFA Women's Super League will kick off on the weekend of the 18th of February with matches slated for Oshakati, Swakopmund, Gobabis and Windhoek.

The kick-off of the league means that football is running at all levels again after a lengthy wait due to various factors.
