The 4th Nkurenkuru Expo is underway at Nkurenkuru in the Kavango West Region.
The town's mayor, Jafet Muti, has called on residents and investors to support the expo.
At the opening ceremony, Mayor Muti said this year's expo is bigger and better to appeal to the vast and growing population of about 15,000 inhabitants and called on potential investors to consider investing in various sectors.
"Nkurenkuru is a quiet and peaceful town with a vast and growing economy. It has a lot of potential in different sectors such as tourism, education, hospitality, agriculture, and infrastructure, which potential investors can explore. I would like to appeal to the potential investors to consider investing in all the aforementioned areas to enhance service delivery and promote local economic development in the town."
The patron of the Expo, former President Hifikepunye Pohamba, officially opened the Expo in absentia with a speech read on his behalf by his Special Assistant Frans Gaoseb.
"It brings me joy to see us all gathered here from all corners of Namibia to proudly celebrate an event that unites us all as a business society to promote our goods and services. This makes me proud as the Nkurenkuru Expo Patron to see how business, GRN, labour, and social society have a common goal, which is to grow and transform the Nkurenkuru economy to be inclusive and sustainable and to address inequality and unemployment in Nkurenkuru town as well as in the Kavango West region and Namibia at large."
The organisers are positive and anticipate a favourable outcome at the end of the Expo.
"Our exhibitors, local SMEs, I think will achieve the aim of this expo, which is to grow their businesses; they need to interact and sell their products to the community, and the public. We have a lot of activities that are coming up," said Sarah Chinkanda-Mushongo, Local Economic Development Officer.
This year's edition, themed "Nkurenkuru, a preferred town of investment," started on Saturday and will end on the 1st of July, with 127 exhibitors ranging from corporate to SME to entertainment.
