Local authorities urged to avoid third parties in collecting debts

The Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Erastus Uutoni, urged local authorities to refrain from collecting debt from their clients via third-party enforcers and rather educate residents on their services and their responsibilities to ensure such services remain available.

He said this during the handover of houses in Nkurenkuru's Kakuro location in Kavango West Region.

Shack dwellers receive homes at Nkurenkuru

At least 24 low-income earners at Nkurenkuru's Kakuro location in Kavango West Region received houses built under the Shack Dwellers Federation (SDFN).

The project began on December 1, 2021.

About 50 plots were allocated to the Shack Dwellers Federation in December 2021 by the Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Erastus Uutoni.

The houses are valued at close to N$42,000.

Of those 50 plots, 24 have so far been completed, with the remainder set for completion by the end of the year.

SPEC calls on Swapo members to support new district coordinator

The Swapo Party Elders Council (SPEC) of the Kapako District in the Kavango West Region condemned the opposition of its newly elected district coordinator by some Swapo Party Youth League (SPYL) members, who elected another candidate.

The media briefing by the elder's council comes after SPYL District Secretary for Kapako Stefanus Kudumo's media briefing, held last week.

Some of the youth expressed disappointment after they elected Valentinus Munkara as District Coordinator last year, only for the party's Secretary General's office to recognise Maurus Nekaro instead.

President Mbumba lays wreath on Alpo Mbamba's grave

President Nangolo Mbumba paid a visit and laid a wreath on the grave of the late Alpo Mauno Mbamba at Mupini Village in the Kavango West Region. 

President Mbumba and the late Mbamba were classmates from 1960 to 1965 at Ongwediva and Oshingabo High Schools.

Dr. Alpo Mauno Mbamba died in Paris in 2001.

First Lady Sustjie Mbumba accompanied the family to receive the remains of Dr. Mbamba and brought them back home at the time. 

Dr. Geingob remembered as a benevolent giver

Pensioners in the Kavango West Region remember the late President Hage Geingob as a benevolent provider.

The nbc News team, during its visits to different homesteads, found the elderly in the crop fields.

They shared their appreciation for the late president.

They say he has eased their burden by increasing their social grants.

Meanwhile, others are questioning whether his plan to increase social grants will still happen.

The late president announced his wish to increase old-age grants to N$3,000 from the current N$1,400.

Rural communities called to enter tourism sphere

The Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism has called on rural communities to be creative and partake in the tourism sector.

This was stated during the celebration of World Tourism Day at Nkurenkuru.

Role players are urged to come up with innovative ideas to position the country as a destination for cultural and heritage experiences, given the rich and diverse cultures of the two Kavango Regions.

At present, the Kavango West Region is considered a transit hub instead of a tourist hub.

Unmatched Youth Conference concludeS

The three-day 'Unmatched Youth Conference' concluded today at Nkurenkuru in the Kavango West Region.

99 youth participants from the Kavango West Region's eight constituencies participated in the conference.
 
Themed 'Awaken your unmatched potential', the event started on Monday and ran for a period of three days.

During the closing session, the Deputy Minister of Sport, Youth, and National Service, Emma Kantema-Gaomas, said her Ministry was passionate about youth development and applauded the organisers for creating the platform.

Nkurenkuru Expo is underway

The 4th Nkurenkuru Expo is underway at Nkurenkuru in the Kavango West Region.

The town's mayor, Jafet Muti, has called on residents and investors to support the expo.

At the opening ceremony, Mayor Muti said this year's expo is bigger and better to appeal to the vast and growing population of about 15,000 inhabitants and called on potential investors to consider investing in various sectors.
