The Nkurenkuru-Nepara road in the Kavango West Region, which has been under construction since November 2023, is finally open.
The road, which serves several villages in the Kavango West Region, has been upgraded to a low-volume seal standard.
The initial contract was cancelled due to poor performance, and a new contractor was appointed over a period of six months.
"We are opening it to traffic, but it's still basically under construction in terms of the second phase. So we would want to call on the road users to exercise patience and also observe the traffic signs, especially now that we are approaching the festive season. They should ensure that they adhere to the speed limit, and we have also constructed what we call the cat eyes to reflect at night, and that is really to assist with the visibility in terms of the animal crossing, and therefore we want the road users to observe the traffic signs," said Roads Authority (RA) CEO Dr. Conrad Lutombi.
Phase one of the project covered eight kilometres of the 27, for which RA is mobilising funds.
The Roads Authority is currently upgrading the Alex Muranda Charlie Cutline road. By Friday, the RA will deploy a contractor to continue with the clearing of the Ncaute-Karukuvisa road.
