The United Democratic Front of Namibia Youth League (UDFYL) has embarked on a mission to revive the youth league structures, which have been dormant for the past 15 years.

The youth league held an elective conference to decide the next wing's executives to represent the party come 2024.

The conference at Okahandja was attended by members from Tsumeb, Grootfontein, Otavi, and Otjiwarongo.

Michael Skini, UDF Youth League Secretary General, said they are on a journey to revive all 32 branches.

The regional elective conferences were held in the Kunene and Erongo regions, and finally in Otjozondjupa.

Skini highlighted the importance of empowering the youth as future leaders of the party.

"It is crucial more than ever that we invest in the empowerment of our youth. Current youth leaders are the leaders of today, the ones who will shape our society and determine the course of our nation's future; their children and possible grandchildren are the leaders of tomorrow. As young people, we have a responsibility to ensure that our voices are heard in political discourse."

UDF President Apius Auchab encouraged the Regional Youth Executives present to serve the public with honour and not allow the party to be led by self-centred leaders.

"The core of your being here today is to elect a standing Regional Youth Executive for the first time in the history of UDF.  You are the future. Therefore, do not allow UDF to be led by self-centred leaders; transformation starts now. Transformation in the party must be planned carefully so that the stage on which transformation should take place must build very strongly. So that it can hold all the challenges that will come your way."

Auchab further said this should be the last time the UDF party only has two seats in parliament, urging the youth to mobilise new members.
