The Rauch Elohim Foundation has so far saved 60 babies who could have been otherwise abandoned.

Police statistics show that 140 babies have been abandoned since 2018, and some landed in the Baby Box at Swakopmund.

Ronel Peters and her husband founded the Rauch Elohim Foundation five years ago.

Their goal was to prevent baby dumping and to assist desperate mothers who cannot care for their children by leaving them in the Baby Boxer Saver.

So far, 60 babies, including the seven currently in their care, have been left in the box.

The Foundation can care for six babies at any given time.

As a little girl, Peters says it was her heart's desire to protect vulnerable babies from being hurt, let alone killed.

They are kept here until they are either given to adoptive families or reunited with their biological mothers.

The Mayor of Swakopmund, Dina Namubes, visited the Foundation and spent some time with the children.

She warmly thanked Peters and her team for the work they are doing.

Namubes encouraged Namibians to support the Foundation.

Apart from preventing baby dumping and providing shelter and care, the Foundation's volunteers also offer counselling.

The Foundation also pays for transportation for mothers who want to bring their babies to the Foundation.
