Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) president, Dr. Panduleni Itula, recently concluded a grassroots regional tour, where he visited nine regions and over 300 villages.
Dr. Itula's visits were aimed at engaging with rural and urban communities to acquaint himself with the living standards and livelihoods of ordinary Namibians ahead of the 2024 presidential elections.
Dr. Panduleni Itula describes the experiences of those he met during his regional visits as 'depressing'.
He says many Namibians across the country, particularly in rural areas, are challenged with economic disparities and unequal access to the country's resources.
Itula says that many political leaders only visit remote areas just before elections with hopes of garnering votes.
'We firmly believe that the pain and challenges experienced by our grassroots communities cannot be ignored any longer. We stand as a catalyst for change, urging Namibians to join us in addressing the deep-rooted inequalities and disparities that persist in rural areas. Our goal is to transform Namibia through organic, home-grown solutions that stem from the bottom up, ensuring that no one is left behind and that every citizen has an opportunity to strive."
Dr. Itula says that the engagements he undertook with the rural communities have further reinforced the party's vision of inclusive and sustainable development.
He emphasised the need for comprehensive policies that prioritise the needs of all Namibians.
"Decentralisation alone has not proven to be effective, and this is a matter of great concern as it means we are failing the majority who are most in need. It is time to change this trajectory and ensure that our rural communities receive the support and resources they deserve."
The Chief Patriot for Change further called on ministries entrusted with elevating the living standards of rural communities to urgently address the problems faced by those at the grassroots level.
Dr. Itula said he met over 25 traditional leaders during his regional tour.
