The Ovaherero Traditional Authority group, led by Professor Mutjinde Katjiua, has tasked the Chief Council to establish a task force committee to investigate livestock theft and alleged unsanctioned mining activities in communal areas.
These are some of the resolutions taken at its meeting at Toasis in the Aminuis Constituency.
"The fourth resolution deals particularly with uranium mining in the Stampriet Aquifer. The Chief Council noted with deep concern the ongoing exploration and proposed in-situ mining process. Therefore, the Chief Council affirms its position that the Ovaherero people shall not move away from genocide to ecocide and therefore resolves that Ombara Otjitambi must urgently direct the task force established to research and provide perceptive on our position on this issue," said Professor Mutjinde Katjiua, Ovaherero Traditional Authority.
The Traditional Authority also noted with commendation the government's commitment to the construction of the Hosea Kutako Shrine at Toasis.
"The Chief Council resolved that Ombara Tjiundje and Ondangere Vetara Mungendje direct a letter to the national heritage council to inform them of the decision of the chief council to establish the Hosea Kutako Memorial Trust as a joint vehicle between the family and the OTA through which they will manage to gather with the national heritage council the shrine at Toasis."
Kgosi Mbao Kahiiko III from Charleshill District in Botswana also attended the commemoration.
"We appreciate that as we travel daily to be part of commemoration activities to support events of our culture, we from Botswana are also proud to get along with the OTA on various activities."
New traditional council leaders took an oath at the holy place of the late Chief Hosea Kutako.
