Health authorities are investigating the cause of flu-like symptoms among learners at Mweshipandeka Secondary School in the Oshana Region.

Johanna Haimene, the Health Director in the region, told Nampa on Sunday that all the affected learners had infections of the upper respiratory tract.

However, all 69 affected learners tested showed negative results for COVID-19.

She said COVID tests were done and no positive result was detected.

Haimene noted that none of the learners were admitted to a hospital and gave her reassurance that there was no immediate cause for serious concern among the public.

Oshana Region Education Director Hileni Amukana, meanwhile, said they are aware of the matter and urged the public not to panic.

Amukana said they are awaiting directives from the Ministry of Health and Social Services for their next steps.
