Fumu of the Hambukushu Erwin Munika Mbambo asked NamPol's Inspector General of the Police, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, why the police are not constructing a police station in Mukwe.
Fumu Mbambo said this when Lieutenant General Shikongo paid a courtesy call on him.
Why is the government not listening to traditional authority? The traditional authority decided the police station should be at the Mukwe tribal centre, where you find today a magistrate court, and this magistrate court is supposed to be taken care of by the police. The capacity of the Divundu area is not the same as that of Mukwe tribal centre; we identified a plot there for the police station at Mukwe tribal centre before this magistrate court came, but they did not listen to the fumu. Mukwe is the main centre in Mbukushu district. Now you find only nice police here in Omega and now in Divundu 40, which means the total capacity of the body is not enough to control the situation here."
Responding to the request, Shikongo says the matter is above his office and he will take it up with the right office.
"We have the local authority council act that enforced in 1992 just two year after our independence and the traditional authorities throughout the country they are falling under that act and the custodian of that act is the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development that's where the stipulations of the role and functions of the traditional authority are stipulated and the powers the functions are stipulated very clearly and again when we are talking about the town council or the town Development town planning the village council the settlement they are still regulated under the same act so the issue of Mukwe versus Divundu as a police officer I will not handle it but I will refer it to the relevant appropriate structures to be dealt with."
