The Namibian College of Open Learning provides an opportunity for school learners to familiarise themselves with deeper and more detailed information on the types of careers they are interested in.
The institution's career fair, which is expected annually, aims at introducing and promoting possible careers to the learners and, at the same time, exposing them to various fields.
The fair is an experience for learners from different schools in the capital with different experts from various institutes to provide a deeper understanding and knowledge when choosing a career.
The two-day career fair was further aimed at ensuring that pupils applied to the right schools and understood different careers and requirements.
Making the right study decisions will ensure that learners make a difference in their communities and the country at large.
The Student Welfare Coordinator at the Namibian College of Open Learning, Vanessa Karises, says that it is essential for schools to hold career fairs because it allows pupils to meet with professionals in their desired field at a young age to avoid choosing the wrong career.
She says when choosing a career, learners need to have the right social personality, interest, and inborn ability.
"Careers fairs help you explore career options and help you choose. There are several people who benefit from career guidance and career cancellation. If you look at it, first of all, it is you, the students. The phase that you are in is an important phase and stage to start with career exploration to make the right career choices because it is believed that at the stage that you are, you decide what to be in and what you want to become."
Karises says that it is vital for learners to have a career plan to avoid jumping from one career to the next.
Some of the exhibitors involved are, among others, the University of Namibia, the International University of Management, Triumphant College, the Namibia Police Force, and Academic Bank.
