The Keetmanshoop Municipality has opted to outsource the operations and management of its Oxpass Tower to PowerCom, a subsidiary of Telecom Namibia Limited.

The tower infrastructure operations and management three-year outsourcing deal was sealed with the signing of a partnership agreement by the parties, which is effective next month.

In terms of the partnership, the Keetmanshoop Municipality will receive 60% of the annual net profits, while the mobile telecommunications company will retain the remaining 40%.

At present, there are 14 rental spaces available on the tower.

The acting CEO of Keetmanshoop Municipality, Cathy Boois, said, "The Oxpass Tower did not really make money for the Keetmanshoop Municipality. It was more of a burden to the Keetmanshoop Municipality, but then PowerCom came in and said, We can do this for you, we can facilitate the rental agreements for you, and we can manage this for you because we have the expertise, and we will thus make sure that your revenue with regard to the Oxpass Tower."

On his part, PowerCom's CEO, Beatus Amadhila, described the partnership signing as a historical moment.

"We are planning, in fact, starting today, we are going to start engaging you on our future expansion plans, whereby we would like to enter into a further Memorandum of Agreement to look at how best we can assist the Keetmanshoop Municipality and community at large in planning the issues of ICT infrastructure, network connectivity in particular, which falls within our mandate."
