The recognition of  Felix Muraghuli as Hompa for the Gciriku Community has stirred discontent among some members of the royal family.

While one faction is urging the Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Erastus Uutoni, to reconsider his decision, another faction has opted to pursue legal action.

Since the death of Kassian Shiyambi in 2019, the Gciriku People have been without a Hompa.

The Ministry of Urban and Rural Development announced Murauli's recognition as Hompa for the Gciriku Community in a letter issued last week.

According to the ministry, this decision aligns with the wishes of the late Hompa, who reportedly designated Murauli as his successor.

In the letter, the Ministry emphasises that the Gciriku Traditional Authority and community members were consulted, and the majority expressed their support for Murauli, culminating in the final selection.

However, the group opposing his recognition contests these claims, asserting that the interviews were conducted with individuals who were uninformed and that they consider the information provided to be inaccurate.

They assert that Murauli was not designated as the successor by the late Hompa Shiyambi and suggest that had the investigation committee spoken with the appropriate individuals, they would have acquired accurate information.

The group has requested a meeting with Minister Erastus Uutoni to include all members of the Gciriku Royal Family who have been impacted.

Meanwhile, a different faction within the Gciriku royal family firmly believes that Aruvita Kayoka is the legitimate successor.

They assert that he was designated as such by the late Hompa Sebastian Kamwanga in 1999.
