A number of dissatisfied residents from Arandis have been camping out in front of the Town Council, demanding land, since Sunday.
The residents, mainly elderly individuals, and pregnant women told the nbc News team that they are disheartened by the continuous need to rent accommodation.
In light of this frustration, they have chosen to spend the night at the location with the intention of submitting their fourth petition to the town council.
They braced for the extreme cold weather, expressing their discontent about being forced to sleep in the open as a means to emphasise their point.
They called on the line minister to intervene and provide assistance, as they have reached out to the town council multiple times without receiving a satisfactory response.
The group says they are prepared to travel to Windhoek to personally meet with the Head of State if their demands do not receive adequate attention.
The disgruntled residents also accuse the council of allegedly reserving tenders for acquaintances and family members of those within the council's management.
According to them, this practise exacerbates the elevated unemployment rate experienced by the town's residents, particularly among the youth.
The group handed over their fourth petition to the CEO, Stanely Norris, who promised to study it and give feedback to the community in due course.
