Carla Geldenhuys, Peya Kashaka, and Emilia Ekandjo emerged victorious in the pre-junior, junior, and senior divisions respectively at the 2nd Qualifying Rhythmic Gymnastics competition.
The event was jointly hosted by Elite Rhythmic Gymnastics and Parkies Rhythmic Gymnastics, with participation from ten clubs nationwide. The competition took place over the weekend at Windhoek Showgrounds in the capital city.
The eight finalists demonstrated their skills across four rotations, each showcasing a unique style. These rotations included routines incorporating various apparatus such as Hoop, Club, Ball, and Ribbon.
In the pre-junior category, Carla Geldenhuys secured first place as she was the sole participant in her division. Her highest score of 13.90 points was achieved during her stunning Ribbon routine. Overall, she accumulated a total of 13.54 points across all four routines.
"I don't feel pressured but I also desire competition so that I can push myself even harder," expressed Carla Geldenhuys.
Peya Kashaka claimed victory in the junior category with an outstanding performance in the hoop routine where she garnered an impressive score of 20.70 points contributing to her overall total of 19.90 points. Kayla Duchaine secured second place followed by Natangue Hambeka in third position.
"I felt really good because my competitors are highly skilled individuals; therefore achieving this success makes me immensely fulfilled," emphasized Peya Kashaka.
Emilana Ekandjo triumphed in the senior category which marked the final segment of this captivating afternoon event. She earned a remarkable score of 20.80 points for her exceptional hoop routine while securing an overall score of 21.84 to claim victory within her division. Joy Lana Kabooy achieved second place with 21.09 points, while Kenandjo Mupia secured third position.
"I feel utmost happiness and pride in my accomplishments since I dedicated extensive training and hard work to this achievement," shared Emilia Ekandjo.
Both Kashaka and Ekandjo belong to the Windhoek Rhythmic Club, garnering immense praise from their coach Rolize Kirsten. While two of her gymnasts achieved first-place finishes, the other two proudly secured third-place positions.
"Two of my gymnasts attained first place while the remaining two claimed a well-deserved third place. I am incredibly proud of each and every one of them," expressed Rozile Kristen.
With their notable performances, both Kashaka and Ekandjo eagerly anticipate future international opportunities.
