African Stars, the reigning champions of Namibian football, have been eliminated from the CAF Champions League. Despite their significant investment to make an impact in the elite continental competition, they were defeated 1-0 in the second leg of their match against Power Dynamos of Zambia. This loss resulted in their elimination on the away goals rule, despite their earlier victory in the first leg with a score of 2-1.
This unfortunate exit from the tournament means that African Stars will have to wait until next season for another opportunity, provided they win the domestic league once again. In their quest for success in the competition, the team made substantial investments by hiring coach Prince Koffie from Ghana and recruiting six foreign players, including two from Nigeria, one from Ghana, one from Zambia, and two from Comoros.
Team football expert Marco Ndlovu expressed disappointment, stating, "We have invested so much in terms of the players and a new coach, but now all we can do is focus on keeping the team together and ensuring we give it another try next year. It is a sad turn of events for us, and we will need to win the league in this upcoming season to secure another chance."
African Stars is expected to return home on Monday morning.
