Family members, friends, neighbours, and government officials flocked to the homestead of the late former Namibian Ambassador to Botswana, Hadino Hishongwa, who died on Friday morning.

The founding member of Swapo and former Namibian politician was born at Odibo Village in the Ohangwena Region, but settled in Onekwaya-West in the same region.

Josua Ndemuweda described his uncle as a unifier, peacemaker, and family organiser who loved to bring family members together.

Although he is distressed by this departure, he is consoled that his uncle was blessed to come back from exile and serve in an independent Namibia, adding that the family learned hard work from him as a family.

Ndemuweda will forever remember how his uncle would remind them to send their children to school if they expected them to become useful future leaders.

Businesswoman Martha Namundjebo Tilahun described Hishongwa as a man of the people who had his nation and community at heart.

Hishongwa's great-granddaughter, Julieta Domingos Benhard, remembers his love and joy of bringing his family together and sharing laughter.
