The inspection of voting material used during the National Assembly election held last month continues at the Electoral Commission of Namibia’s headquarters.
ECN Commissioner Pius Iikwambi says the process is proceeding smoothly so far and expressed confidence they will be done by 17:00 today.
The ECN prepared and made available information from over 2,500 teams for inspection and verification.
So far, the Commission has not received any request to extend the inspection dates beyond the two days that were ordered by the court.
Iikwambi further clarified that the two days for inspection was a proposal made by the political parties and was not dictated by the ECN.
Iikwambi also added that the two days are sufficient since it’s material for just one election that is being inspected without counting ballot papers, and parties can take pictures and make copies of the documents so they can go assess them on their own time.
He also added that they received a request from the political parties who were not part of the court process to have access to ballot papers; however, they clarified to them that this was not part of the court order.
The two-day inspection of voting materials is expected to end this afternoon at 17:00.
