Namibia has identified a number of entry points through which strategic national objectives related to job creation, economic development, and social protection can be attained.

The entry points include greater coordination of employment creation under the auspices of the "whole of government’’ approach, commitment to facilitate the expansion of social protection coverage, and commitment to youth employment and entrepreneurship.

This was revealed by the Minister of Labour, Industrial Relations, and Employment Creation, Utoni Nujoma, during the High-Level Event on the Global Accelerator on Jobs and Social Protection for Just Transitions, underway in New York.

Nujoma says for the identified strategies to produce favourable results, they need to focus on key target groups, including youth, women, and vulnerable groups.

Namibia, he says, has further identified sectors of green energy, agriculture, fisheries, mining, and tourism through which the transformation agenda towards more and better-quality jobs can be achieved.

‘’In this regard, the Government of Namibia, recognising the importance of the UN Global Accelerator process, committed in April 2023 to becoming a pathfinder country, with this process receiving buy-in from the highest political office and Namibia’s Head of State, Dr. Hage G. Geingob, fully committing to this objective. Namibia’s commitment to becoming a pathfinder country recognises that problems related to unemployment, economic development, and social protection can be fast tracked through multilateral cooperation,’’ Nujoma stressed.
