A fire broke out at the Directorate of Water Supply and Sanitation Coordination in Rundu, destroying more than N$360,000 worth of water infrastructure.
The senior administrative officer in that directorate, Josef Shinkanda, says what caused the fire is still unknown.
It was all hands on deck as various people at the scene tried to extinguish the fire.
According to Shinkanda, the fire started at around 10:00 on Tuesday.
It destroyed 12, 10,000-litre water tanks and other water infrastructure initially earmarked for upgrading water structures in various rural communities in the region.
The equipment was supposed to be installed at eight rural communities before the end of this year, but with the fire incident, the senior admin officer says there is no telling when exactly the villagers will be assisted.
The water equipment was not insured, and no one was injured when the fire broke out.
