Family and friends paid tribute to the late renowned musician Axali Doëseb as they gathered at the ELRCN's Bet-El Parish in Katutura to celebrate his life through church songs, many of which he composed.

The composer of the Namibian National Anthem "Namibia Land of the Brave," Doëseb, was described as a determined yet humble teacher and a fighter.

The 69-year-old musician was a motivator, and his work was recognised not only within the country but across borders.

One of his friends, Peter Karron, who has known him for 43 years,  says the name Axali draws comparisons to Mohamed Ali, who was fighting for unity and peace among his people.

"The late musician was also in the music band that went to South Africa those years; we were best of friends; we travelled together, but remember the good that he did because his good deeds will last forever."
