The under-17 team of the Katutura-based Riverheights Football Academy has successfully defended their title in the MTC HopSol Youth League during the 2023 season finals.
This victory comes after the team secured their first HopSol accolade last year. In an exciting match over the weekend, they triumphed over Ramblers Football Club with a score of two goals to one.
As a result, they have earned the opportunity to participate in the upcoming Dr. Hage Geingob Cup in Windhoek this weekend.
Established three years ago by Nixon Marcus, the Riverheights Football Academy is a youth club located in the Goreangab settlement. The academy boasts six teams in various age groups competing in the HopSol League, all of which have been performing exceptionally well.
During the final match of the season, the under-17 team showcased their skills and determination, securing victory against Ramblers at the Jan Mohr sports field. Ronald Chari, the team's coach, mentioned that out of the eight games they had to contest, they only suffered one loss on their path to the finals.
Chari expressed his pride in the team's achievements, particularly considering the challenges they faced. He highlighted the limited facilities and support compared to other teams. Despite these obstacles, the team's commitment, unity, and hard work have propelled them to success.
Chari also took the opportunity to commend coach Nixon for his dedication and the players for their unwavering focus and ambition throughout the year. Despite the academy's ongoing challenges, the players have remained committed and have demonstrated their resilience.
In addition to the under-17 team's success, the under-15 team of Riverheights Football Academy also received recognition, winning the Team of the Year accolade in the 2023 HopSol season.
The academy owner Nixon Marcus was honored with the 'Coach of the Year' award. These achievements reflect the academy's continuous investment in the players' well-being, including providing educational and other opportunities.
